Evaluation
Explain what you did for the Podcast project and whether it was what you had intended or needed more input.
My podcast project was an eerie and slow paced short story, detailing truthful accounts of bizarre events that have happened in my lifetime. There were many story choices to choose from but, as my alternative was historical, I went for a history inspired story based in modern time. I guess, in a way, it was not what I intended. But, ultimately, the final product turned out better than I had anticipated.
The topic was that of "That Time A Halloween Costume Made Me Famous" a short story which details my struggle to accidentally becoming a world known costume designer. My original intention was to tell the story overexaggerated with lots of enthusiasm. As i was recording late at night, I had to lower my volume to ensure that I wouldn't be keeping anyone awake. The outcome of this meant that the final product was extremely monotone, almost at a whispering level of noise. Somehow the style choice works and I'm happy with the final result.
Evaluate if your target audience was correct, or wider or more niche.
In the case of this project, I found it very difficult to relate the subject to a target audience. I felt that I could not quite put a category of people together that may find the podcast interesting. Interests are a personal preference and target audience is only a guide.
That being said, what I was aiming for was most definitely achieved. The target audience was that of - people interested in short stories at ages 16+. I strongly believe that a small child will not find the podcast interesting. The information is hard to collect unless you attention, and a smaller child would not be able to concentrate on it for the entire duration.
Evaluate how you would make the Podcast into a subscription series and retain / attract your planned target audience(s).
I believe that audience participation is incredibly important to a podcasts success. I have sort of invented my own style of podcasting. With multi-voiced storytelling from the same narrator. This is a style that I strongly believe can be adapted into a full series. I have only produced a single episode, experimenting with different stylistic formats throughout. I know that focusing on the multivocal style will propel the podcast to success and feed not only the current target audience, but the future target audience.
Evaluate how you might use a Podcast in the future for -
Your own communication of ideas and information
This is an interesting idea. In the future I could use my podcast as a space to brainstorm ideas. If I have a crazy pitch idea or something similar, I can discuss it and publish it. That way the copyrights are reserved to me and the idea is online for me to remember.
As a self-promotional tool for your future
The Blog space is an ideal location to promote my future projects. Music can be talked about, lyrical meanings and production techniques. And filmmaking scripts and plots can be discussed. I feel like self promotion would work best if other people were involved. You're unlikely to take someone's word about themselves, but more likely to believe it from someone else. Therefore, guests are an important tool to help promote my future projects on my blog.
Conclusion
I think, overall, the project went extremely well. This project was very challenging but I am very pleased with the outcome and hope to take the mistakes with me. I have learned important sills and know what I should not skip out on. I am looking forward to the next opportunity I get to use sound in media.
